I've spent my whole life in Arizona. I suppose that it's only natural that as I grew up I became intensely interested in what this part of the country was all about and what it had to offer. That's how I account for my strong attachment to the "Old West" and the cowboy way of life. Especially the history. Not so much the notable and famous stories that we are all so familiar with, but the accounts of the ordinary folks who lived here and how they managed day to day, with what they had on hand.   About twenty years ago, I fell in to a part-time job in a small Flagstaff saddle shop, which quickly turned full-time and then into a partnership. That's where I learned the basics of the trade. We made twenty saddles for the mules at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. That little shop didn't last very long, but it sure sparked one heck of an interest in me.   I began my own shop with two machines, an 1870's Singer #7 flatbed stitcher (in case you're curious, that machine model and an old horse brand is how I came up with the Flying Seven) and my newest sewing machine, a 1906 Singer #16-188. Nowadays, I have a whole shop full of 'trustworthy' antique machinery of different types that I use most every day. You see I've stuck with the old machinery for a reason. They anchor me to the "Old Time" traditions of this craft.   In my shop, I try to create a wide variety of 'hard leather' goods, with an interesting and essential blend of traditional, contemporary, and useful styles. Form and function in an old fashioned way. Just the way the craftsmen of the 'historic west' would have done.   I hope you enjoy your visit here!
